About the Role

We are looking for a Staff Data Scientist to help us process large amounts of raw data into strategic insights for consumption by our Product, Engineering, and Leadership teams. In this role you will lead the evaluation, design, and implementation of machine learning models and statistical analyses to support key business objectives.  

As a Staff Data Scientist, you will play a critical role in driving data-driven decision making at Platform Science and shaping the future of the company’s data science and machine learning capabilities. You have excellent communication skills both written and verbally, with proven experience communicating highly technical information to a variety of audiences.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive evaluation of ML opportunities and summarize findings and recommendations to address business use cases and inform the data science strategy 
  • Collaborate with other Data team members and Product leaders to define the data science strategy and roadmap for Platform Science
  • Utilize advanced data mining and machine learning techniques, such as natural language processing, deep learning, and neural networks, to solve complex business problems
  • Leverage our modern data stack (dbt, Snowflake) to filter, clean, and transform data from a variety of sources
  • Work closely with our Product and Engineering teams to translate business problems and goals into data science solutions, and select the appropriate approach
  • Communicate findings and recommendations to stakeholders in a clear and concise manner
  • Contribute to the development of the company's data science & machine learning capabilities, including defining and implementing best practices and processes
  • Mentor and provide guidance to other data team members as well as stakeholders to advance our culture of collaboration and data-informed decision-making

Experience

  • 7+ years of experience in a data science or machine learning role
  • 3+ years experience in mentorship or leadership roles, with the proven ability to provide guidance and support as a subject matter expert to other data team members and stakeholders
  • Deep understanding of machine learning libraries (scikit-learn, TensorFlow, etc.) and algorithms
  • Advanced knowledge of statistics and experience using statistical packages for analyzing datasets (Python, numpy, pandas, R, etc.)
  • Expertise in statistical analysis, hypothesis testing, and experimental design, and strong knowledge of probabilistic models, Bayesian inference, time series analysis, A/B testing, and multivariate analysis
  • Proven track record of building, deploying, and maintaining machine learning models in production
  • Experience working with large datasets and optimizing models for scalability and performance
  • Experience with machine learning platforms/services such as SageMaker, Bedrock, Gemini, Vertex, Azure Machine Learning, Databricks etc.
  • Expert SQL skills including multiple-table joins, unions, sub-queries, CTE, aggregations, temporary tables, and analytical functions
  • Experience with reporting and visualization tools such as Looker, Tableau, Domo etc
  • Technical expertise regarding all things data, including: mining, modeling, transforming, cleansing, and validating
  • Ability to take vague requests and transform them into concise deliverables at a level of detail appropriate to the target audience, with attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to manage and prioritize projects, balancing short-term needs with long-term strategic goals
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for explaining complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
  • BS in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Computer Science, Information Management or equivalent experience

This is an exempt role. Our job titles for each posting may span across more than one job level. The estimated base salary for this role is between $158,482 to $225,000. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target range for new hire base salaries across all US locations. Compensation packages are based on many factors unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, work experience, relevant trainings and certifications, business needs, market demands and specific geographical location. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. This role may also be eligible for bonus, equity, and benefits.
