As we close out 2024, it is a perfect opportunity to pause and reflect back on the many exciting changes and goals achieved by our Platform Science community. BUSINESS MILESTONES

Platform Science Raises $125 Million in Growth Capital

Platform Science raised $125 million in growth capital to accelerate innovation in the commercial transportation sector. Key strategic investors included C.R. England, Cummins, Daimler Truck, PACCAR, RyderVentures, and Schneider. New financial investors included Activant Capital, BDT & MSD Partners, and Manhattan Venture Partners. Platform Science also had strong participation from existing investors, including 8VC, NewRoad Capital Partners, and Prologis Ventures, underscoring their commitment to the company’s growth plans.

Platform Science’s flagship innovation is the Virtual Vehicle marketplace, which is now being included as a native component of the vehicle, making it as easy for developers to build applications for drivers and fleets as it is to build them for smartphones. Virtual Vehicle is the first application platform that can unlock all signals at the edge directly on the truck without any aftermarket hardware installation, and is being deployed by many of the world’s largest commercial trucking fleets.

Platform Science Achieves ISO 27001 Certification

In August 2024, Platform Science announced its ISO 27001 certification for its information security management system supporting infrastructure and services used to support the development, operations, maintenance, and delivery of the Platform Science Connected Vehicle and Cloud portal applications within the U.S. 

ISO 27001 is a globally recognized standard for the establishment and operation of an Information Security Management System (ISMS). In order to achieve the certification, a company must show it has a systematic and ongoing approach to managing sensitive company and customer information. This certification, along with SOC2 Type 2 (for which Platform Science has been certified since 2020), demonstrates Platform Science’s commitment and best practices around data integrity, availability and confidentiality.

Platform Science to Acquire Trimble’s Global Transportation Telematics Business Units to Drive the Future of Transportation In-Cab Technology

Platform Science and Trimble reached a definitive agreement for Platform Science to acquire Trimble’s global transportation telematics business units, establishing Trimble as a shareholder in Platform Science’s expanded business. The proposed transaction aims to enhance driver experience, fleet safety, efficiency, and compliance by combining two cutting-edge in-cab commercial vehicle ecosystems, giving customers access to more applications and offerings. 

Upon closing of the proposed transaction in the first half of 2025, Trimble’s global transportation telematics customers will continue to enjoy the benefits of their Trimble solutions, with the added flexibility of the Virtual Vehicle platform from Platform Science. Platform Science customers will enjoy the added choice of Trimble's remaining portfolio of transportation solutions which will be available on the Virtual Vehicle platform.

Phillips Connect: Actionable Trailer Insights Delivered Directly Into the Cab

Phillips Connect’s DriverAssist integrates smart trailer data into the Platform Science architecture to deliver key, near real-time information directly to the driver in the cab, including information that can help prevent misspulls, damage to cargo, and roadside breakdowns.

DriverAssist delivers key trailer data, including real-time tractor-trailer pairing validation, tire pressure monitoring, and many more expansion options, ensuring drivers stay informed about their load and trailer health at all times.Integration into the Virtual Vehicle marketplace ensures that information is delivered in the driver’s existing operational environment on the in-cab tablet, without requiring additional hardware or devices. Instead of additional tasks being added, existing processes are simply made smarter.

Fleet Defender and Werner: Responding to cybersecurity and safety challenges faster and more effectively

Fleet Defender, known for bringing real-time safety and cyber threat detection capabilities to commercial fleet vehicles, announced its collaboration with Werner Enterprises to deploy Fleet Defender’s Neural Sentinel across Werner’s entire fleet of vehicles via the Platform Science Virtual Vehicle platform. 

Neural Sentinel includes powerful artificial intelligence models to provide real-time monitoring and detect potential cybersecurity threats and safety risks from within each vehicle. It leverages cutting-edge anomaly detection technology to deliver immediate insights and alerts for fleet managers, allowing them to monitor their vehicles for cyber and safety incidents in real-time. Integration into Platform Science’s Virtual Vehicle platform enables a software-only deployment directly into each vehicle without the need for additional hardware, simplifying fleet-wide adoption in minutes rather than months

Eaton Cummins Automated Transmission Technologies: Remote diagnostic technology optimizes decision-making and maintenance planning

Eaton's IntelliConnect's remote diagnostic technology for automated transmissions provides near real-time monitoring of vehicle fault codes, delivering action plans from experts to reduce unplanned downtime and accelerating the diagnosis of necessary repairs. Integration with Platform Science ensures fleet managers can easily access vehicle data for decision making and maintenance planning.

IntelliConnect includes comprehensive fault code action plans that move beyond just reading transmission fault codes. Using a holistic systems approach, it reviews data from other vehicle components to determine potential root causes and solutions. Customizable delivery of information means alerts can be provided via email, OEM portal, the fleet’s telematics portal, or the Eaton portal. These features help increase fleet uptime by reducing unplanned downtime and quicker repair diagnosis.

Skybitz: Streamlined tractor-trailer pairing with Bluetooth

Misspells can cost fleets a significant amount of wasted time and money. SkyBitz’s SkyMatch uses smart logic to facilitate quick and accurate tractor-trailer pairing verification through a local Bluetooth network while the SkyMatch app runs in the background on Platform Science’s in-cab tablet. SkyMatch is easy to deploy and scale up or down based on evolving needs.

Fleets have seen improvements such as improvement in trailer utilization, and a reduction in a reduction in cargo claims and errors associated with manual entry. SkyMatch’s integration with Virtual Vehicle presents a single, unified trailer management interface, saving operational and administrative time.

Platform Science Partners with TAT (Truckers Against Trafficking) to Install TAT App on All Tablets Provided to Platform Science Customers

Platform Science recently announced its partnership with TAT to proactively install the eTAT app for ELDs on all Platform Science devices provided to customers. This partnership will help educate thousands of drivers on how to identify potential human trafficking conditions on the road, at truck stops, and delivery points, and make reporting concerns simple and efficient.

TAT (formerly known as Truckers Against Trafficking) is a nonprofit organization focused on educating members of the truck, bus, and energy industries about the realities of human trafficking and how they can combat it. This initiative ensures that drivers have immediate access to vital resources and tools necessary to identify and report suspected human trafficking incidents.

Platform Science was named #2 in the FreightWaves’ seventh annual FreightTech 25 Awards, spotlighting the most innovative companies in the freight technology sector. The FreightTech 100 list is produced by a panel of journalists, analysts, and experts, with voting condensed down from nearly 900 nominations, then down to 250 companies. An external peer group of CEOs, industry leaders, academics and freight-industry investors then determine the 25 most innovative companies in freight. According to FrieghtWaves, this list represents what it believes to be the”paragons of technological progress in the freight transportation space.”
